Co-created at the Seventh World Congress of the International Association of Educators for World Peace, we are connecting through our organization to 92 Countries.

The Booklet contains a questionnaire, that will identify, quantify, and qualify results and will enable us to track our progress.

As a prelude to the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations and the Great Millennium Campaign.

The operating systems of our society are breaking down and we as world citizens need to take positive ction to provide a harmonious abundant future.


The following booklet and initiative was launched May 22, 1994 at the VII World Congress of the International Association of Educators for World Peace. This conference took place at the St. Petersburg State University of Pedagogical Arts, St Petersburg Russia.

The CONSPIRACY*

To Change the World or How to BECOME a GLOBAL CITIZEN



* Conspiracy literally means to breathe together, so Marilyn Ferguson wrote in her book "THE AQUARIAN CONSPIRACY" first published in 1980. The exercise in this booklet will enable you to join the Conspiracy.

An opening thought:
A grade school science class did an experiment. A frog was caught and thrown into a pot of boiling water. The frog jumped out quickly, scalded but still survived and recovered. Another frog was placed in a pot of cold water and the pot was heated gradually. The frog found the temperature to be comfortable and was lulled into inactivity by the pleasant warmth but as the temperature rose it became comatose and by the time the water boiled IT WAS DEAD.

This story is a metaphor for what we are doing as humans on earth. We have become lulled into accepting consumptive behaviour. Our difference is that use can forecast the potentialresults of our behaviour and we can choose to change.

Overview
If you look at humankind, we note that we have many things in common. Our skins may be different shades of color and we may speak different languages but we all experience life through our senses. Our senses have become numbed by what we consume, by what we hear, by what we taste, by what we smell, by what we see, and by what we feel. Worst of all, we have lost our instinct for survival.

This is true in part because of the way we breathe and what we breathe. It is true for most of us as a species, not necessarily on an individual basis.

Our government sets standards on what we can breathe to maintain a minimum level of health. Standards are not set for what or how we should breathe in order to maintain a maximum level of health. Breathing is at the root of how we process energy in all its forms.

How do we change this? By paying attention to our choices. By changing what we choose to do.

Rationale:

Do you know how to breathe? Who taught you?

Breathing is really a three step experience. We breathe in to bring oxygen into our lungs. We hold the oxygen in, in order to give the blood an opportunity to absorb the oxygen and carry it to all parts of our bodymind. We breathe out, to exhale the residue of the chemical transaction that takes place.

We recommend that the Major Exercise #1 be used liberally, but carefully, noting changes in physical abilities, personality, behaviour and actions.

We also recommend checking ones' behaviour against our Prime Directive: which is "All receiving is for the purpose of Sharing".

OBSERVATION:

Our earth is in trouble. All of our systems are dysfunctional: Economic, government, religious, community, family, environmental, educational etc..

We have been led to believe that everything is OK and that a technological fix is just around the corner . Why do use refuse to accept the fact that we are facing an eco-catastrophe?

It is our hope that you, as an individual, have become aware of the problem, and desire to become part of the solution.

If the world is going to change, first I must Change.

Teachers, parents, politicians, scientists are being asked to challenge their understandings with the contents of this booklet.

BUT WE CANNOT WAIT FOR THEM. LET US BREATHE TOGETHER.

MAJOR EXERCISE #1

Breathing

Why:

To begin the process of personal change.
To take control over yourself.
To give your body an opportunity to process more oxygen.
To connect yourself to the Earth.
To connect yourself with life.
To change the world.

When:

To start your day, to end your day.
Anytime you feel like it,
When you feel tired,
In anticipation of stressful experience,
Before a meal,
To begin a meeting,
To begin a class

THE EXERCISE:

How:
Sit comfortably, spine straight. Stretch your arms pointingpalms to the ceiling. Turn head to one side, then to the other. Turn shoulders first to one side, then to the other. Bring arms down. Support each of your limbs and maintain a straight spine remembering the spine continues into your head.

Breathe in: 1,2,3,4.
Hold the Breath in: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16.
Breathe out: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8. Pause

Repeat at least three times. Maintain the same 1:4:2 ratio. It is helpful to keep the numbers in front of you the first few times in order to create your breathing pattern. Use as often as you feel comfortable. Do not strain yourself. If you have difficulty with holding for sixteen counts, shorten the breath in. Note results. This exercise is a suggestion only. One may try other combinations that feels "right" for themselves. Learn more about the importance of breathing. Visualizing your preferred world view during the breathing exercise is an empowering experience. Know that millions of others are doing the same.

Dear Parent

The Major Exercise #1 suggested in-this book is for you as well as your child. Sometimes you may feel uncomfortable introducing the exercise to your family, friends or associates because of social pressures, or personal insecurity. Generally speaking, the more awkward the feeling, the better the results will be. We do not understand why it works that way, But it does.

The exercise is simple, but its value is in the experience of doing it. Be aware that the exercise is a very powerful tool for change! After trying the exercise, discuss the contents of this booklet with your child, other parents, and your child's teacher.
Be open minded, and enjoy! Note the results.

Dear STUDENT:

Our world is changing at an incredibly rapid rate. When your parents were children they had a sense of their future and an understanding of how their world would evolve. It gave them a feeling of confidence and hope. To-day, every field of endeavour is changing at a rate that is increasingly difficult to forecast. We have little idea of how many people can survive on our planet, and at what cost to our air, water, soil, and ozone resources. It is difficult to know what to teach you about the future of planet earth.

But these are also exciting times and you have abilities and understandings that will allow you to affect changes in a positive way. You have the power.

The Major exercise #1 will prepare you for change. Try it for thirty days. Be aware of its effects. Let us know how it works for you.

Take a copy of this booklet to your parents and to your teacher. Discuss its contents.

Dear Teacher:

You have the most difficult job. This booklet is intended to assist you. Attempting to prepare students to live in a largely unknown future is an awesome task. We feel that some basic groundwork will increase the students adaptability to exercise control over the changes they would like to see.

We recommend you consider using the Major Exercise #1 and a Framework for Global Learning in order to help you achieve your goals as a teacher. Determine how the issue you are teaching fits within the proposed framework, by reviewing and reflecting with your students on your lesson material either daily or weekly. This process will facillitate the transformation to Global Citizenship. Discuss these ideas with other teachers and your local parent teachers Association. Set up a support group to test the breathing exercise. The importance of this exercise cannot be over stressed.

A SUGGESTED FRAMEWORK For Global Learning. This wholistic framework consists of 5 inter-related topics which set out the ground rules for global education. They are:

1) Systems awareness (earth systems, human systems(17+ ), biological systems, etc. Where we are in space, our HOME)

, 2) Individual perspective awareness (who I am, my sense experience, my preferred world view, who we are, who is OUR FAMILY), moving from Empathy to TRANSSPECTION.

3) Health of planet awareness (how everything interconnects/ the inter-relationship between Economics, Energy, Ethics, and Health where we are in TIME, All actions or inactions have an effect.

4) How to become involved (organizationally), and Prepared (personally, physically, morally, mentally and spiritually),

5)The process of lifelong education. Teachers are learners too. Learning with parents and students, teachers facilitate a new process of lifelong learning. Relevance of learning.
