First Nations Assembly Presentation
First Nations Assembly Presentation
ASSEMBLY OF FIRST NATIONS
ASSEMBLY OF FIRST NATIONS Policy Forum & Special Chiefs Assembly May 22 - 24, 2007 The Hilton Lac-Leamy Gatineau, Quebec Greetings to those interested in our presentation to the AFN CHiefs Policy Assembly: I enclose the Presentation that was accompanied by the Toronto Land Claim file. It is difficult to assess the success of my presentation as I was quite pressed for time and happily the Chair suggested that I copy my presentation and give it to all that wanted to read more about what I was talking about. Our presentation was copied for all to read and I am sending a copy out to others that hopefully will share with other Chiefs. After my presentation Chief Terrance Nelson spoke. His words reflect a support for the TOPS program although he does not see it yet for himself. Hopefully he will get over whatever block there is between his heart and mine. I met as well a Chief Will Marshall of the Potlotek Nation. He is developing a technology for garbage disposal and is creating about 20 jobs instantly. I also met Andy Carvill Grand Chief of the Council of Yukon First Nations, Wendall Nicholas of the AFN, and Stan Beardy Grand Chief of the Nishnawbe Aski Nation. These people should prove to be great allies for our Lobby with the Victoria University Co-Chair position. They each have serious economic development issues. I trust each of these people will be responding in a good way to the attached file. As a closing commitment I stated that I would stand in solidarity with the Manitoba Chiefs and others on June 29th. I will shut down the Ferry to the Toronto Islands as a symbolic gesture of support. Due to the importance of the Ferry, we will only shut it down for a two hour stint - but this should get National attention as Islanders will certainly be of two minds on this. Those that support the First Nations Peoples and those that do not want anything to disrupt their lives - especially when it comes to Mitch Gold and Spirit Island. And then there is City Hall - who knows what goes on in their minds? We will see how the City itself chooses to support this initiative. Certainly will be an interesting exploration into the heart of the City. for now Mitch -- Mitch Gold "By a draft on the International Year of Planet Earth, 2008, which the Committee approved without a vote on 11 November, the Assembly would declare 2008 the International Year of "HOME" Planet Earth. It would also designate the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to organize activities to be undertaken during the Year, in collaboration with UNEP and other relevant United Nations bodies, the International Union of Geological Sciences and other Earth sciences societies and groups throughout the world. Also by that draft, the Assembly would encourage Member States, the United Nations system and other actors to use the Year to increase awareness of the importance of Earth sciences in achieving sustainable development and promoting local, national, regional and international action." Nation of Plutocracy Posing as Democracy
Monday, July 08, 2002
From the early days of human existence, we learn that deceit was the element mostly used to destroy individuals and communities in the most devastating way one could possibly imagine. If this has proven to be a tangible fact for the past six thousand years of recorded history, then we cannot take this element lightly.
