“26k-user-tool” for easy use of ISO 26000,
Proposal for a Research Project
Rev
2011-09-25
Scope
1.
Develop a
Research Project on Integrating the Ten Transposers and the 26k-issue-tool into one royalty-free “26k-user-tool” which should become the easiest-to-use way to
credibly demonstrate the self-responsible use of the recommendations contained
in the “ISO 26000 guidance standard on social responsibility”, thus eliminating
the need for organisation-external service offers like
certification, assessment, or training.
2.
Promotion
of the use of ISO 26000 throughout the world.
3.
Contribution
to the development of a greater understanding of the notion of giving - not as
charity - but as a process for sharing.
Justification
1.
A
"guidance standard" is a rather new type of ISO deliverable, the
characteristics of which are not so well known, yet. Essentially the guidance
standard offers recommendations, advice, proposals and orientation which an organisation may follow or may decide not to follow.
The number “26000” and other aspects give rise to a wide range of misunderstandings
and misconceptions, and – knowingly or unknowingly – misuse of ISO 26000, often
undoubtedly practiced for commercial purposes.
This is detrimental to the voluntary widespread use of the guidance.
2.
Particularly
larger businesses may see higher benefits by investing into this research
project than to spend a similar amount for organisation-external
services like audits, certifications, assessment, consultancy, or training.
Such services have developed around the ISO 9000 standard on quality management
and ISO 14001 on environmental management and created an enormous business on
the side of service providers. ISO 9000 and ISO 14001 audits and certificates
are valid only for a limited time so that the certification providers have
created an easy revenue source through "standard-based repetitive audits
and certificates" which can be considered somehow unsocial especially when
looking at small and medium enterprises that are more or less forced by the
larger businesses to present such re-certification results.
3.
ISO 26000
on social responsibility should not become a standard that creates a similar
business because, again, this would be detrimental to the voluntary widespread
use of the guidance.
4.
ISO 26000
creates an opportunity to unify change management, corporate training and
development and departmental alignment with community service. Community service
is the selection and/or distribution of deliverables made possible by a shift
in considerations via ISO 26000 education, instruction and optimization.
Dialogue empowers the effective use of applicable standards regardless of
certification.

Homeplanet
virtual university will have to roll to verify that the organisation/company
is intending to use the ISO 26000 Standard “Guidance on Social Responsibility”.
Homeplanet virtual university will charge $100 per
employee and is willing to take barter/currency of the company being involved
with – i.e. we bank their currency and we offer the currency to our market
place demonstrating the efficacy of our educational process and the value of
education as an energy/monetary consideration.
Every organisation/company
allows a value for corporate training - our program can be easily delivered
over the net and our program can be measured. We will develop test
results with those using the Grow Young program and those not.
Since ISO 26000 is intended to be applicable to
all organizations regardless of type, size or location, ISO national member
bodies are organizations in this sense and will be addressed accordingly.

Annex:
the “26k-issue-tool”
This tool is an
inherent part of the “ISO 26000 user guide”, which is available at http://www.26k-estimation.com/html/the_26k-issue-tool.html#26k-issue-tool and
at http://www.ifan.org/ifanportal/livelink/fetch/2000/2035/36282/394607/social_responsibility/index-sr.html , as being supported by IFAN, the International Federation of Users of
Standards. It enables an organisation in a quick and
easy-to-handle manner to identify the relevant core subjects and issues and
where action could be taken towards development of society.
ISO 26000 describes in
its main clause 6 on "Guidance" seven
core subjects (organizational governance, human rights, labour
practices, the environment, fair operating practices, consumer issues,
community involvement and development), and for each core subject a number of
so-called issues where the more
detailed recommendations can be found.
The 26k-issue-tool is
an Excel sheet that shows in the very left column the core subjects and issues
and offers per issue six crucial questions in the other columns:
If all six questions in a row can be
answered positively, an issue has been identified where an organisation
can really undertake action to contribute to the development of society.
The questions should be answered from left to right, that means from question 1
to question 6, and as soon as one of the questions did not find a positive
answer, the related issue can be considered as not well suited for action.
