Wednesday December 10th Discusion on Satan Went for dinner with my friend Ahmad Shehab. We have been friends and business associates for a number of years. He works at the Best Copy printers. We have prayed together. He is a Muslim, and has taught me how to pray to Mecca. He does this as a formal ritual five times daily. This includes a washing ritual were you wash your feet, hands, mouth, forehead etc. When he picked me up at my apartment, I was a little disappointed because Annika had chosen not to come along with us. It turned out to be a blessing because our discussions would have taken a different flavor. In Ahmads’ household, his wife was not present. She stayed in the kitchen and food was brought in. I mentioned to Ahmad that I found this strange, but he assured me this was their custom. Ahmad was explaining to me the perception of Islam of Satan. In my own belief system, there is no room for Satan. I have discussed this with Howard on a number of occasions, and it seems that in the Kabbalah they also have a perception of Satan. Ahmad goes on to identify some of the attributes that Satan encourages. he identified Five notions: lack of attention, ignorance, despair, self- importance, and busyness - chasing desires. These are identified as breeding grounds for Satan. The next morning I called Howard to discuss this notion and to determine if these were the same attributes of Satan in his understanding. He stated forces of entropy and negativity. Disguises itself into any form that is attractive to the human ego: success, false love, sensory gratification. He went on to say: the principal of the fallen angel, God and his angels had a battle and the legion of angels that were caste out of heaven - became the legions of Satan. Practically speaking I feel I am on solid ground in not having time for Satan. Howard says I am discounting five thousand years of history, and ignoring the teachings of three great religions. He says that I should go and do an ego check on this information. I say I have no time for Satan be it ego or belief. If I look to any of the models I am using, say the medicine wheel, or the ten transformers, or the four E’s, I find no room for Satan. I want to share the value of teaching wisdom, knowledge, the value of having a preferred world view, the value of the information contained in the Indian Medicine Wheel. Yes, I believe in oneness. That is easy for my mind. The duality that Satan sets up in my construct does not work for me. I just have to know that oneness is reality. Connecting to the endless is the desire. It is the root cause of my behaviour. My thinking on this does not make it true or false. My thinking on this makes sense in time. If, my assessment is incorrect, and time is not a factor, then I could agree that we can go on and on and argue the issue of whether or not Satan exists. I choose to eliminate Satan from my thinking, and move forward with the discussion of the importance of time in our thinking structures. Time does not allow for Satan. One could argue that the dilemma that the world is in today is due to the efforts of Satan. Who in the media would support that issue? One could argue that the quality of the air we breathe is the work of Satan. Who would argue that issue? One could argue that the pictures that we see on the Television describing the horrors of the world are the work of Satan. Who would argue these issues. Not I. I will bring forth the discussion on issues of importance. Tell me. What is the importance of your understanding of time? How is your time? I ask you to look at the nature of Timelines and organize time in the constructs suggested. Qualitative, quantitative, physical, duration etc. Maybe if enough people understand time differently, life will change. We do live in different times.
