Sunday the 18th The naming Ceremony, meetings with White Cloud and Crow Dog We got up at 8 AM and went over to Pat’s place were Crow Dog and his entourage were spending the night. It had been raining all night, but the sweat was being prepared when we arrived. Before the sweat Pat and I went into his van - or private office if you want to call it that. We talked for about an hour and then Crow Dog joined us. We continued for another hour and then we experienced the sweat. Crow Dog was gentle as he had his grandson in the lodge with us, and it was to be his naming day. There were 45 rocks for the sweat today - there is normally 28, seven for each round. But to-day was different, and Crow Dog called for about thirty rocks for the first round, then the second round there were none added, and the balance was added for the third and fourth round. As always it felt good, although there was not a lot of prayer in this sweat. After the sweat Crow Dog sent Neil and myself over to the hotel in order that I make a full presentation to his immediate entourage, and himself, and those that were participating in the naming ceremony. Suffice it to say, that after I presented our site, and I was originally given ten minutes to make a presentation, during the presentation Crow Dog extended my time by about thirty minutes. When I was finished, he instructed me to pick up my camera and then he went on to point at the website, and at me and said something to the effect that this is what the Indian nation needs. He invited me to call Mary Thunder at the Thunder Ranch to come and present to the Elders and Shamans of all the tribes. A meeting is to take place in early February. To be honest the power of the feeling did not hit me until I was driving back down towards Gabriola and I started to cry. What amazing thing is happening to me on this voyage. After the naming ceremony where Ed’s boy was named "Beautiful Bird Singing" and Crow Dogs grandson was named "Thunder Cloud" , we all went out for another pot luck dinner. During dinner, there was a drumming where those that knew how participated, and I went and had two little meetings: one with Pat where we summarized what had happened over the past three days, and one with Mary an educator that had developed a program for helping children. I offered assistance of our programs and support with the mayors offices. Not wanting to miss the last ferry to Gabriola I left around 8 PM for the drive down. Got home and into bed after setting a few things in order for the next day.
