March 12th Howard drove me to the airport early in the morning. Got in my seat and there were two empty seats beside me, and I sat wondering what sort of magical people would sit down on this flight? Or would it just be a routine, get out the computer and catch up on some writing flight. Well Michael Horneck and his wife Janice sat down. It is not often that one develops such an immediate liking for a couple. We talked for the whole flight. It seemed to go by in a flash. Michael is involved with an interesting project that includes a program to assist corporations become environmentally friendly. He talked for quite a while on his program, and then I presented some of what I was involved with. He saw an immediate opportunity to work together. He is the marketing Manager for a company called Intellux. We shall see what might unfold from this. He informed me of an event in Vancouver the next week called Globe 98, a major environmental get together of corporations involved in sustainable business endeavors. His program is likely on the leading edge. I said I would try and get to the conference. We arrived in Vancouver, and as I was waiting for my bus, Michael and Janice came by and offered to drive me over to the ferry. I had already purchased my tickets and decided to go with them anyway. They had a very small rental car and we packed ourselves in like sardines. It was not the most comfortable ride, but it was great spending more time sharing with these two wonderful people. They have three boys Matthew, Joshua and The youngest is two, and this is the first week-end that Janice has had away. They are planning to spend some time seeing some friends and Janice leaves Monday. They got me to the ferry in time, and after some confusion with my tickets, it seems that I got the ferry ride free. I am not clear on whether my ticket will work next time, but I am led to believe it will. On the ferry ride over I met this young fellow Jon McClaren who is traveling around from lumber camp to lumber camp picking up work as it becomes available. He was reading the Celestine Prophecy. We chatted for a while and a First Nations friend of his came by to join our conversation. Nothing major but one never knows. Terry Lynn was on time! We went and did some shopping, picked up Brandon and as Terry Lynn was very tired, Brandon and I went out to dinner together. |
