Fri. March 27th Sat 28th And Sun 29th World Citizenship, Time, Money and Sustainability. Since the locale for the event had changed, I had to do shopping and some additional organizing and set up. I still did not have a good idea of who might be attending. I went out and spent $150 on foodstuffs. This turned out to be a financial mistake as there was no recovery mechanism for the costs. The food was welcomed though, and I personally enjoyed its availability. I was expecting twelve participants in all, but as things would go we only had ten. In retrospect it worked out pretty well as there was virtually no stress in the weekend. Virtually all attendees were there because of my specific efforts, and there were no attendees from the University. Friday night we got started late as Monica and Leah were coming from Vancouver and Diane was coming from Saltspring Island. We opened with some ritual breathing exercise, smudging etc. We went around the room with everyone identifying why they were attending the workshop. We went through each of our understanding of the words, and did some individual mind maps of the experience. We talked Friday night until 1:30 AM. We agreed to start at 10 AM the next day but as things happened we did not get started until around 11. We watched The Last One and engaged in discussion around the ideas in the story and the relationship between the ideas in the video and the theme of the workshop. We had a lunch break and two of the attendees wanted to take the afternoon and explore Gabriola. I personally thought this was rude, but I went along with it and both Michael and Kevin went along with the girls to explore the island. I stayed and worked with John and Mary, both of whom had expressed interest in doing the work of teaching the ideas as part of their lifes plan. We worked on a number of issues and I showed them the site and some of the educational materials. Quite unexpectedly we had visit from Chief Brian Bob from the Nanoose Band. I had met Brian before and we had a great meeting. He expressed interest in the Manitou Water Business that we re looking to move out West. He offered some land and his personal involvement. This will be followed up back in TO. Many discussions of interest took place during the next several hours and we ended up organizing a sweat lodge for that evening. Sunday we did some exercises with the Focus on individuals time perceptions, and then we did an exercise with the beads of pain. We used the format of the Beads of Condolence and some additions were made by Pt as he saw the value in the exercise and expanded it. This was a good experience for all and we then broke to put together an early sweat for the community. Everything went really well except fort the economics as there was not clarity with every ones expectations. I think in all it ended OK although you would have to ask each individual about their perception on this. |
