Wednesday November 5 - no plans - Vancare Wellness Center - Jerry, Gord Kushner, Dr. Cragg

This day was to be relaxing with absolutely no plans other than to deliver the computer cord. On the way over to Direct One, a beautiful vision appeared in front of my path - her name was Evelyn and she was wearing a sticker identifying her with the Vancare Wellness Centre. Wanting to learn more, I went over to the office and engaged in a short conversation with Andy Kushner, the son of the owner of the facility. I explained some of what I do, and expressed interest in meeting his father. He invited me to attend the opening day of the wellness centre - which I said I would do after I finished my primary mission- delivery of the computer cord. While deliverinbg the cord, I noticed a young student following the staff memeber that looked after my delivery. I engaged him in conversation asking him what he was learning. He actually was not clear on it. He was just hanging out with his aunt, and watching what she did. I suggested that while he watched her, to try and understand what the system was - when she took a piece of paper from me, what was the system that was engaged. What systems were involved? How did they locate my computer? My work order etc? It seemed that this thought became almost a revelation both to him and his aunt - who immediately suggeested that understanding those systems would be understanding this business. And that is truly why he was there. I asked if his teacher had given him instructions on what to look for. He said that he was sent in with no instruction. This is the area for an ahaa!. - I'll bet in most of these apprentice styled programs that the teachers do not give instructions on what to look for, because they probably know nothing about the industry they are sending the student to. This is where students can use our programs effectively - in every part of the business that they look at, they can bring our thinking models to the business inb order to help them understnd the business. (see business model) After this learning experience for me, I headed back to the ewellness centre.

I was greeted by Dianne Levi, the instructor for the event - this was to be their launch event for thed wellness centre. There were about twelve people there of varying ages, leaning towards the senior ages. Without going through the whole thing, suffice it to say there was a discussion on what wellness means: and surprise surprise the language of the medicine wheel jumps out all over the place. In fact one might say our whole educational format from exercise - to vision of the future, to feeling to spirtual experiences. Then the final amzing thing happened - Dr. Cecil Cragg was going to talk about "Food For Thought" These were the words written on the board before I sat down - imagine how at home I felt! Dr. Cragg told some of his life story, the most memorable part for me was his story about the second World War where he was teaching students to read and write. - In three weeks, he was able to teach someone to read and write that did not have the skill before. This of course had the pressure of the War as an extenuating circumstance - abd he did say that he had one failure - one person who just could not or would not learn. One out of thirty seven he said.

The day ended with a healthy conversation with Jerry Kushner and we talked about how we could help each other. I suggested that we involve the local school and have the students come to the centre and obtain storiies from the people at the centre. This could be done by those at the school that do not have their down grandparents to interview, or maybe could be done by whomever feels they want to. These stories could be done by almost any age group, and the reporting style could be open to either teacher direction or themed by the student themselves. That was the idea I left with him and we agreed to explore further after he has had an opportunity to look at our site.

Back to the apartment for 6 PM to meet Ashok for dinner. We went to a Punjabi restaurant and had a wonderful dinner. Ash is not feeling well today, and I think it is probably due to stress as much as anything else. Without going into the personal details, we explored some common ideas for several hours and expereinced a wonderful dinner. After dinner I was taken back to the kitchen and met the owner who showed to me the ovens that they use - a rather unique clay pot structure for preparing the pita bread and the other "bread" styled foods.

We finished early and I went home to an early sleep.
