Saturday September 27th
Had a good sleep and woke to the sounds of ducks in between the odd truck
running by. We were in Battleford and stayed at a motel run by Kevin.
He reluctantly agreed to meeting our budgeted criteria for staying over.
On the way to returning the key I was intercepted by a "Prolife March" I
had an opportunity to test my trusty new camera. I joined the walk and
got in a conversation with Michael one of the organizers. We chatted on
the video as I walked along with him. I introduced him to the World
Citizenship Challenge in an attempt to get the conversation going in this
community. He mentioned his brother is on the Internet. I left the walk
and went back to the hotel. I did not realize how far I had gone and was
almost lost as I paid not attention to the roads etc. I did find my way
back and went to video Kevin, who chose not to be on camera. We packed up
and left.
As we went along the highway I took some video shots. Capturing some oil
wells, and some of the expanse of the terrain. We stopped in Lloydminster
to get the Internet connection happening. Again to no avail , but Jason,
the Internet "guru/clone" at the MicroAge store did the best he could . He
is going to school at the Lockheed College a joint college of Alberta and
Saskatchewan. He is in computer science course. I told him about our
project and offered him to get involved in any way that he desired. He
told me a story about his summer job in Flin Flon, where he was born. He
spent the summer working at a zinc mine and he shared what some of his
duties were. He also mentioned that the health standards appeared to be
below what would be considered healthy - even though the jury is still out
on the specific effects of being exposed to the acid/ cathodes / and surge
of 10,000 volts of electricity. As I showed him our web page, his cousin
from Edmonton dropped in for a visit, and we have some footage of both on
video.
We travelled on towards Edmonton and took what I thought was a short cut
through Vegreville. As we entered the town we passed by a World Peace Park
established by the Rotary. We met two students there and they gave us some
insight into how the park is used and we told them about our website. We
left our business card and were on our
way.
We stopped for a late lunch at a Chinese food Restaurant and I had the
opportunity to do some writing. A one-year old came in shortly after we
started, and we inter-acted with her in a most amazing manner. Got some
video footage of her, her grand-mother
and great grandmother.
Off to Edmonton for a quick visit with Chrys Chase and Eva. The short
visit lasted 2 hours, and we decided we may see them tomorrow. We
learned through Justine, a friend of Christina Lukomskyj that Maria
Formolla had invited us to stay at her place while she was out of town.
Our plans of going to Jasper tonight have been set aside to explore the
Edmonton connections.
Justine put us up for the night. Sleep was deep.
