Letter to Conversation Cafe organization in response to "non political agenda" of CC's - Sept 29, 2003

I have entered the election campaign to get issues of importance on the agenda. If you choose not to identify myself with the agenda items that is fine. I bring these ideas forth in the tradition of the Peacemaker, and for those that are not familiar with this and choose to separate these ideas from me - that too is fine. In fact you are welcome to take these ideas to any candidate -they are not owned by anyone - they are for the people - to serve the people of Toronto.

If you think our CC's is going to have an electoral effect you might be dreaming well beyond my expectations of the CC experience.

Moving the UN to Toronto is an idea to benefit Toronto - if you are for it fine - if you are against it fine - it is not a Mitch Gold Idea - Dennis Mills is the promoter of the Idea. I am not a supporter of Dennis Mills. Notwithstanding he is supporting a good idea.

With the Toronto Dollar - there are no other Politicians that I am aware of, that understand the notion of the Toronto Dollar even though Mayor Mel used it many times for Photo ops. I believe discussion of the Toronto Dollar can only be beneficial to Toronto and the homeless.

With regards to educating the bureaucracy in the field of global thinking and/or the great mind / is not an idea that is owned by Mitch Gold or any one else - it is certainly worth discussing. If it need be, find other candidates and ask them about these ideas - this is the purpose of discussion.

To short circuit the intellectual process of discussion and say that CC's will not be permitted to discuss these ideas makes no sense to me.

At # 6 we will be discussing these ideas - if they come up - and likely they will - but we will not discuss these ideas in a vacuum - we will discuss them because people have an interest in understanding the meaning of these ideas. we welcome challenges on the content of the idea and application of the ideas - but to restrict or eliminate the discussion because on person chooses these ideas that are on a political agenda - makes no sense.

Have we not discussed same sex marriages? have we not discussed prayer in the schools? have we not discussed food programs? these are all political issues supported by one candidate or another.

Because I bring them forth is hardly a reason to not discuss them.

In closing; CC's IMHO are intended to discuss the issues of our time - and to be approved by the people in the group attending.

Perhaps I was rude to inquire of the CC network regarding my platform. IF this is the case, I apologize for my rudeness.

I do think however that CC's ought to engage in discussions of issues of importance, ought to discuss Jump Time and its meaning, and other issues of our day.

Our group at # 6 is fully in agreement with philosophical approach to the CC's.

Peace

Mitch Gold.
